This is the first of a suite of floras
initiated by the Conservation Alliance, an organization that unites a network of land
managers, scientists, educators, community members, and conservation-based
non-profit organizations to coordinate a wide range of activities and
programs focused on community engagement, research, restoration, and promotion
of the many mountain parks in Maricopa County. Efforts have expanded to Cave Creek
Regional Park and the Sonoran Preserve and others are in the planning stages. The North Mountain Park is in Phoenix
and is roughly bounded by Thunderbird Rd on the north, the 51 Freeway to the
east and residential development on the south and west. The map below shows both the boundaries and
collection sites. We have collected 650 specimens with
184 taxa to date and we expect to make several additions in the 2015 season,
which will likely conclude most of the field work for this project. |
