DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, January 12\, 2023 \nCoalition for Sonoran Desert Protection: Update on Desert Conservation Issues\, presented by Carolyn Campbell\, Executive Director.\nCarolyn will give an overview of conservation issues in Pima County including the Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan\, formation of the Ironwood Forest National Monument\, and the latest on the proposed Interstate 11.  The Coalition’s mission is to protect the biodiversity of the Sonoran Desert in southern Arizona through science-based advocacy\, education and collaboration.  AZNPS has been a member of the Coalition since its inception 25 years ago.

SUMMARY:Tucson Chapter Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our next chapter meeting Thursday\, December 8th at 7:00pm. Members are encouraged to bring native plants as door prizes\, and we will continue our tradition of bringing cookies to celebrate the holidays!\n\n\nOur Tucson Chapter meeting is coming up on Thursday\, December 8th. The talk will be hybrid\, with the ability to join us on Zoom or in person. The Zoom link will go out the day before the talk\, and we will open up Zoom at 6:30 pm with the talk beginning at 7:00 pm. For those of you joining us in person\, we are meeting in the ENR 2 building on the University of Arizona campus in room S215 on the second floor. This building is located at 1064 E Lowell St\, Tucson\, AZ 85719\, Google Map of ENR2 Building. The best way to enter is via the Lowell St. entrance on the north side of the building. The closest parking is the 6th street garage located on the north side of 6th street\, directly adjacent to the ENR2 building\, the cost is $2/hour and you MUST have a credit or debit card as the garage DOES NOT accept cash. There may be limited free parking nearby but there is no guarantee\, members who live on the west side are also encouraged to take the FREE street car to the UofA campus.\n\nThe distribution and drivers of subtropical plant species in the U.S. sky island region\, presented by Jim Verrier.\nThe large number of subtropical plants reaching their northern range in the U.S. sky islands contribute to the unique botanical flavor of this biodiverse region. This talk will explore the extent of subtropical plant distribution in the Arizona-New Mexico sky islands\, drivers of subtropical plant occurrence\, regional patterns of subtropical species turnover\, and sky island subtropical hotspots.
