Wednesday, December 13, 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the 4H Building: Tina Ayers.
Introduction to Plant Identification

Tina Ayers will give a introduction to the field of plant taxonomy and then
present a few families of plants that are common in northern Arizona.
These families have distinctive features that make them easy to recognize
with a little practice. Once you know the characteristics, identifying an
unknown plant takes much less work.
Tina grew up in Albuquerque and fell in love with plants while working at a plant
nursery. She received multiple degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and
worked in New York and California before accepting a position at NAU, where she
has been teaching botany classes for 34 years. She is a professor in the biology
department, curator of the Deaver Herbarium, and supervisor of the teaching
greenhouse. Tina has collected plants from Canada to southern South America.
Currently she is studying the Lobelias of the Sierra Madre in Mexico.
