Plant Laws
Arizona Noxious Weeds
The updated Arizona Noxious Weeds list was approved through the governor’s office and became law on January 4, 2020. The last prior update was made in 2005. Several species have been dropped from the old list and many new ones have been added.
The Arizona Native Plant Society and the Southwest Vegetative Management Association (SWVMA) partnered to do the research and finalize the new list, to lobby the Department of Agriculture, and engage in active advocacy in public meetings. Thank you everyone for your efforts!
Arizona Native Plant Laws
The Arizona Department of Agriculture website has a great deal of information relating to the protection of native plants in the State of Arizona. Information on plant salvage and recovery is governed by state law under Arizona Revised Statutes Title 3. Go to Chapter 7, Arizona Native Plants. Or go to Arizona Revised Statutes for specific information.
Their website also provides information about obtaining a form to remove protected plants and locations for obtaining permits. They also have a list of Protected Native Plants by Category.
