Goodding Willow

The two willows on our list are relatively small trees, although one occasionally finds a very large specimen. Goodding willow is somewhat more common along the desert streams, while Bonpland Willow is more common in the mid-elevations. These trees tend to hug the streambank often extending their roots into open pools. Look for Goodding Willow along the San Pedro River, lower Verde and Salt rivers, the Bill Williams River, and the Santa Cruz River. The trick with our two willows is not to confuse them with the many other willows we have. Keep in mind that Goodding and Bonpland willows are trees (single stems, or occasionally two or three, >5m tall when mature), while our other willow species are shrubs (many stems, <4m tall when mature).
