Description | Snapdragon vine has a broad distribution across Arizona from the southeastern sky islands, through central AZ north of Phoenix, and on to the northwestern part of the state around the Grand Canyon. This is a species of thin soiled slopes and bedrock canyon walls. Snapdragon vine will rarely exceed 6ft in growth. and in habitat you will often find this plant trailing along boulders and slopes, or twisting amongst the branches of shrubs. In lower elevation gardens, part shade is definitely recommended, this would be an ideal companion vine for mesquite (Prosopis velutina) or oak Quercus spp.) depending on where in the state you are gardening. The trumpet shaped flowers can be purple, pink, or red, depending on the provenance of the seed. Following blooms abundant seed is produced by Snapdragon vine, and this species can go feral in a landscape, popping up around shrubs and trees near the original planting. |
