Description | An unusual xerophytic shrub found in and around washes in the deserts of western Arizona. Plants produce few leaves and primarily photosynthesize through their grey bark. In the heat of mid summer these plants erupt with showy violet blooms, followed by fragrant, resinous seeds pods. Smoke tree makes for an excellent specimen in a xeriscape with cacti, succulents, and hardy shrubs. Make sure to plant in well draining soil. |
