Description | A berry producing shrub typically found as an understory plant at higher elevations. Naturally occurring populations can be found around Flagstaff, the White Mountains, and on the taller sky islands in southeastern Arizona. Orange/red flowers are followed by spiny, purplish berries. Leaves are lobed with toothed margins, and stems are spiny. Preference would be for moist, rich soils, and shade from oaks (Quercus spp.), and pines (Pinus spp.). This species is only appropriate for high elevation gardens in Arizona. |
