| Description | This southeastern Arizona Native brightens up a garden with its extremely showy, pipecleaner like blooms, but be aware that the recurved spines of this species make it best to plant away from a walkway. Velvet pod mimosa ranges from About 4-6ft in height with thin reddish/brown stem and very fine pinnate leaves which are deciduous in the wintertime. This is a good centerpiece shrub in a pollinator garden where the flowers will attract bees and butterflies in the summertime. Plants look particularly spectacular following monsoon rains. Also a nice choice for gardens modeled on the sky island grasslands. |
