Description | Wood's rose is a common shrub in temperate parts of the American west, well into Canada, and it reaches close to its southern limit in the mountains of Arizona. Where there is flowing water and openings in pine forest it is not unusual to see the branches of this plant forming a thorny thicket. The 5-petaled, delicate pink flowers are followed by rose hips which are edible and high in vitamin C. This species is most appropriate for folks gardening at high elevations in the state where cold hardiness is essential, and where summer heat is not so withering. However, if shade and ample moisture are provided this species can be grown lower than its natural range. |
